Information, Communication Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovations Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena assured government sponsorship for the second stage of the Satellite Project launched by the Arthur C.Clarke Institute of New Technology when he visited the institute on an inspection tour recently. Minister Dr. Gunawardena who was accompanied by Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake and other ministry officials said the institute should widen opportunities for higher education available to the youth generation and conduct research on modern science and share the results obtained with the country and foreign countries.
He also said that there was a possibility of granting opportunities for all students passing the Advanced Level examination to obtain a degree through such institutes.
Minister Gunawardena congratulated and thanked the institute officials for the landmark achievement made by the institute in recent times such as the launching of the Ravana 1 satellite and finding a new planetary system around a star situated 1133 light years away from earth. Discussions held by the Minister during the tour centred on the progress achieved by the Institute's Information Technology Unit, Communication Engineering Unit, and several other sectors as well as employee vacancies and financial other needs too.
