Former Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Saruwa Liyanage Sunil who was sentenced to 15 years Rigorous Imprisonment by Colombo High Court for allegedly molesting an underaged girl has filed an appeal before Court of Appeal challenging the judgment of Colombo High Court.
Through his appeal, Saruwa Liyanage Sunil is seeking the jurisdiction of Court of Appeal to review and set aside his conviction and the rigorous imprisonment imposed by High Court on January 17.
The accused-appellant alleged that the trial-judge (Colombo High Court) had made his judgment without taking into consideration evidence transpired during the trial.
Accused was further ordered to pay a fine of Rs.25,000 as well as Rs. 250,000 in compensation to the victim by High Court.
