In addition to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) at Mulleriyava, ten other major hospitals in the country are now geared up and ready to provide complete recovery care for the Coronavirus, the health authorities announced yesterday.

This announcement was made after a series of high level meetings of officials and experts convened by Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday to bring the country up to full gear in response to the virus challenge.

Making the announcement at a news media briefing, Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that in addition to the IDH, all required medical treatment and isolation facilities are now available at the Kandy National Hospital, the Colombo North (Kalubowila), Karapitiya, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Kurunegala and Batticaloa Teaching Hospitals and, at the Gampaha, Negombo, Ratnapura, and Badulla Hospitals.

All air and sea entry points to Sri Lanka are now being protected with health condition screening facilities and initial response facilities. A video clip on Coronavirus infection prevention has been issued by the health authorities for showing on airline flights.

Dr. Jasinghe disclosed that the condition of the Chinese woman infected with the Coronavirus was now stable and her general health condition is not serious. She has been given all required medical treatment at the Angoda IDH. She is being kept in isolation in the hospital and no one can get infected, he said.

The Director General said that hotels and other places visited by this Chinese patient have already been identified and relevant instructions on preventive measures have already been given to individuals who had interacted with her during her stay and travels in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, several persons with symptoms similar to the virus had presented themselves for testing at government medical facilities in the past 24 hours, Dr. Jasinghe disclosed. Persons came forward for screening from Mullaitivu (1), Kandy (1), and the hotel where the corinavirus positive Chinese woman had stayed (1). They are only suspected cases and have so far not been found positive for the coronavirus, he added.
