Minister thanks MRI staff for developing blood test

Incubation period of virus 15 days

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi thanked the staff of the Medical Research Institute (MRI) for developing the blood test that can detect Coronavirus presence in blood.

This is not available in many other countries in the world at the moment.

According to Minister Wanniarachchi, the MRI developed the blood test on Saturday (25).

Now the MRI can detect the virus in the blood of any person. But the incubation period of the Coronavirus is around 15 days and therefore any individual can have it for 15 days without symptoms.

She expressed those views after a ceremony held in Colombo yesterday.

Minister Wanniarachchi pointed out that there are many solutions available for various issues related to the current situation but the final decision will be taken after the meeting of the National Action Committee appointed by her under the direction of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Health services Director Dr. Anil Jasinghe held a series of discussions in connection with obtaining relevant technical advice, she added.
