Maintaining Moragahakanda–Kaluganga reservoir delayed without funds

Maintaining the Moragahakanda–Kaluganga reservoir in Laggala cannot be carried out properly since the necessary fund has not been provided by the relevant authorities, the sources of the project said.

A senior officer of the project said that over 200 persons from the re-settled families have been recruited on contract basis as minor employees for maintenance works. But they cannot be paid their salaries since the management has no fund after another four months.

This situation will hamper the maintenance of the project, which is the largest built by the Mahaweli Authority, he said.

The authorities have to take immediate action to resolve the issue, the officer said.
