Cloud Nine Lanka Resort opens in Kalpitiya

Pinning another luxury boutique hotel to Kalpitiya Tourism catalogue, Cloud Nine Lanka Resort, Wanathavillu in Kalpitiya would be opened next week.

Owned by the General Manager of a leading Soft Toy manufacturing establishment and Nature Photographer Neli Fernando, the hotel has 10 luxury chalets each with a terrace. All guest rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, an electric tea pot, a bidet, a hairdryer and a desk, while every room comes with a private bathroom and a closet.

Cloud Nine Lanka Resort features a restaurant for 30 guests, outdoor swimming pool with a kids pool, an elevated lounge with the view of the lagoon and a large garden, an ideal setting for wedding backgrounds.

He said that they had invested around Rs. 80 million and would add a further Rs. 10 million to introduce Solar heating and lighting and a bio Gas plant, which would be powered by hotel waste that would be used for cooking.

Fernando said that since this is the only hotel in the area, they have taken great care towards environment protection when building the hotel and maintaining it and also community development. “We have trained and recruited young workers who were involved in the construction of the hotel from the. Most of the vegetables and Sea fish are perchased at a higher price from the nearby community, by opening a new market for them.

The Resort consists of a 24-hour front desk, room service and organizers special tours, said General Manager Sumith Fernando.

He said that they have a special speed boat service that takes guests on night fishing tours, excursions to nearby uninhabited islands and other attractions.

“The hotel is less than 30 minutes’ drive to Wilpattu new entrance and Kalpitiya Whale Watching and Kite Surfing attractions. The area is popular for cycling and we have also arrange for bike rentals.

Resident Manager, Samith Fernando said that they would be embarking on a regular cleaning up of the Odiyapitiya island, where they would also install garbage bins at part of their CSR. “We will also host corporate day ‘camping’ day outings in this inhabited 30 acre island with clearance from government authorities.”
