A German specialist doctor, Prof. Donat Peter Hader, recently called on Health Minister Pavithra Vanniarachchi to discuss the possibility of using Chlorophyllin to control dengue mosquito numbers in the country, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, Prof. Hader pointed out the possibility of producing Chlorophyllin using plants such as grass and banana trees.

Even a small concentration is effective, and it becomes poisonous only when exposed to sunlight. The new method for this is cost-effective, he added.

Prof. Hader had stated that he would join hands with the National Dengue Control Unit and the Medical Research Institute (MRI), to conduct an experiment on the possibility of using this method of mosquito control in Sri Lanka.
