Former govt. inconsistencies proved at HRC in Geneva

Sri Lanka’s inconsistent policy on addressing alleged human rights violations was exposed with former Minister Thilak Marapana told the Human Rights Council in Geneva that the government would not agree to some of the provisions in resolution 30/1 and 30/4, co-government spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

“Our stance has never changed from the one we maintained when this government was in power,” he said. “We will remain so even during the next session. However the former government inconsistency was exposed when former Minister was not in agreement to some of the provision in the resolution that was passed.”

He added that former minister Mangala Samaraweera had differed when it came to the government policy towards the United Nations Human Rights Council resolutions.
