New digitised system introduced at Pensions Department

The Pensions Department yesterday (20) introduced a new digitised system to manage information of pensioners. The system will accordingly receive and update all relevant details of the pensioners. The digitised system was launched by the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Bandara Thennakoon at the Pensions Department yesterday (20) morning.

The government spends around Rs. 250 billion to pay pensions to around 641,000 pensioners across the country. However, there have been a number of instances where the pensions of the deceased pensioners are being scammed. As a preventive measure, the Pensions Department carried out an annual process where it gets confirmation on pensioners’ residency and whether they are alive or deceased.

The Pensions Department believes that the new digitised system will minimize the pension-scams due to which the government has to endure millions of rupees in losses.
