Commemorating its sesquicentennial anniversary, Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena recently conducted a ceremony named ‘Panhinde Sithuwili’ to launch over 75 Children’s Story Books authored by the students of both primary and the upper school. This initiative by the Principal Rev. Sr. Mary Renuka Silva, gave a fabulous opportunity for those students who would like to pursue their talents in writing and drawing, and created the required platform.

Twin sisters Vinumi Senethma and Vinuki Hasithma, of grade 10 created a fascinating story book called ‘Aththamata Horen’, a story that depicts the importance of loving and closely knitted relationship between children and elders. It also speaks of the value of living as warmhearted human beings giving love and affection, caring for one another. The grandmother in this story is a friend to all the children around her. The illustrations too are very attractive and have a familiar sentiment.

The twins got an opportunity to present their story book to the veteran author and illustrator Sybil Wettasinghe, which they consider a great privilege. They are grateful to her for all the advice and guidance they received from her.

The duo Vinumi and Vinuki are equally good in music and have won many awards. They are grateful to their principal, all the teachers, parents and everyone else who have supported them on their journey. ‘Aththammata Horen’ is available at most of the libraries and leading book shops in Colombo and in the suburbs.
