Hemasiri and Pujith further remanded

Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, who were arrested on charges of criminal negligence and the failure to prevent or minimize the damage caused during the Easter Sunday Terrorist attack, were yesterday further remanded till February 3 by the Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.

Senior State Counsel, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General informed the Court that Criminal Investigations Department recorded statements from seven people including former President Maithripala Sirisena, Parliamentarians Azath Salley, M.L.A.M.Hizbullah, Rishad Bathiudeen and Rauff Hakeem regarding the incident.

Senior State Counsel also stated that former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has not yet given a date to record statements.

The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack, and remanded on charges of criminal negligence and murder.
