Pensioners have been instructed by the Director General of Pensions Department to submit their residential certificates to the respective Grama Niladharies on or before February 15. Kurunegala Senior Divisional Secretary W.E. Jayatilake revealed this at a meeting of government pensioners in Kurunegala yesterday.
If they failed to comply with the instruction, their pensions would be discontinued from May this year, he said.
They have to attach a copy of their identity cards as well to the certificates. It was found that a large number of persons are drawing pensions illegally representing their dead relatives. Grama Niladaris have been instructed to visit residences of the pensioners and collect their details to prevent fraudsters from drawing pensions, he said.
