Chandrika removed from SLFP Attanagalla Organiser post

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Central Committee has decided to remove former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga from the post of SLFP Organizer for the Attanagalla Electorate. The official letter communicating the decision will be delivered before long, SLFP General Secretary State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said.

Speaking to the media at a press briefing yesterday (17) morning, Jayasekara said the SLFP had come to this decision as Kumaratunga has acted in violation of party decisions.

State Minister Jayasekara also told the media that State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna would be appointed as the acting SLFP Organizer for the Attanagalla Electorate.

“The SLFP shall take action against anyone who violates party decisions without considering their powers and positions. Otherwise, this party would not be able to prove itself as a party that respects its laws and regulations. We shall do the same in the future. We must be accountable if we want to strengthen the party,” Jayasekara pointed out.

“There have been a number of cases where the SLFP’s decisions have been violated during the last election by party organizers. However, we are not able to take legal action against such organizers. We will hold an inquiry and take action against the SLFP Local Government members who similarly violated party decisions during the last election,” Jayasekara also said.
