Matheesha Wickrmanayaka of Dharmaraja College Kandy was adjudged the most outstanding player of the All Island unranked and novices Table Tennis tournament concluded recently at Jaffna Central College . Matheesha won a triple championships by winning men’s singles, boys under 18 and boys under 15 finals. This tournament was conducted only for the boys while the girls tournament was conducted earlier at the same place at Central College Jaffna.The tournament was organised by Asian German Sports Exchange Programme(AGSEP) with the support of Sri Lanka Table Tennis Interim Committee.

The outstanding paddler Matheesha beat Kawindu Kumudanjana of St Mary’s College Kegalle in two straight sets 11/4 , 11/8 to clinch the open men’s title while he defeated Sithum Niranga of Loyola College Bopitiya 11/6, 12/10 to win the boys under 18 final .Once again Matheesha met Kawindu at the under 15 boys final but he continued his winning streak to defeat Kavindu to complete the third championship 11/9 11/9. Matheesha received P. N Pestonjee Memorial Trophy .The Chief Guest Mrs. P G R Jayathunga, the Deputy Principal of Central College, Hanguranketha gave away the awards.

This tournament was a success with more unranked and novices players battling each other to win the age group titles. In addition organisers conducted this tournament to promote this sport in Northern Province and Jaffna players involvement was a huge success said Chandana Perera the chief organiser of this tournament .

Under 21 Boy’s Singles : Sithum Niranga of Loyola College, Bopitiya beat J Sijam Raj of Central College, Jaffna – 11/09 , 11/03

Under 18 Boy’s Singles: Matheesha Wickramanayake of Dharmaraja College, Kandy beat Sithum Niranga of Loyola College, Bopitiya - 11/06 , 12 /10.

Under 15 Boy’s Singles: Matheesha Wickramanayake of Dharmaraja College, Kandy beat Kawindu Kumudanjana of St. Mary’s College , Kegalle –11/09 , 11/09

Under 12 Boy’s Singles:– Amila Udara of Maliyadeva College , Kurunegala beat Bimsara Rathnayake of Maliyadeva College , Kurunegala – 11 / 07, 11/ 09.

Under 10 Boy’s Singles :– Savinda Pasindu of St. Mary’s College , Kegalle beat Charithra De Silva of Devananda College, Ambalangoda - 07/11,11/08, 11/08.

Under 08 Boy’s Singles :– Minuga Dasanayake of Ananda College, Colombo beat Charithra De Silva of Devananda College, Ambalangoda – 12/ 10 , 11/ 06.

Under 21 Boy’s Singles: Ravindu Wijesinghe of Ranabima Royal College, Peradeniya beat Yasith Wickramaarachchi of St. Mary’s College , Kegalle – 11/05, 11/08.

Under 18 Boy’s Singles Aritha Bandara of Ranabima Royal College, Peradeniya beat Dilan Sameera of Ranabima Royal College, Peradeniya – 11/06, 08/ 11, 11/06.

Under 15 Boy’s Singles : Kavishka Pawan of Ranabima Royal College, Peradeniya beat Ishanka Madushan of Anuruddha College, Nawala pitiya– 02/11, 11/09, 11/07.
