Two ill plane passengers die following emergency landing

An Indonesia-bound plane belonging to Thai Lion Air made an emergency landing yesterday morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

According to sources, the airline had made an emergency landing when two passengers complained of being ill.

The passengers were travelling to Indonesia from Saudi Arabia, and the flight was diverted to Colombo at around 2.45 a.m.

It was reported later that the passengers had died before they could be admitted to a hospital for medical attention. The deceased passengers have been identified as a 71-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man, both Indonesian nationals.

Indonesian Embassy sources stated that investigations are being carried out regarding the incident.
