Unawatuna businesswoman ‘murdered’

Assistant Judicial Medical Officer Samadhi Dandeniya of Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, who held the post-mortem into the slain woman entrepreneur of Yaddehimulla, Unawatuna returned a verdict of homicide caused by cutting her neck and by shooting.

Last Friday early morning Game Kankanamge Niluka Chamali Wilasitha, aged 34, the owner of Mid-Town House Restaurant had been hacked to death using sharp weapons within the premises of same restaurant.

While she was staying at her cafeteria with her seven year old child, two persons who arrived on a motor bicycle had cut her neck with a sharp weapon and following her collapse on the floor, shot her dead. At the time of the crime two hotel employees had been there, who ran out because of fear. Nevertheless the criminals had spared her seven year old child unharmed.

Further, the police investigations have revealed that the couple had been in dispute over some time regarding the possession of the land and property, where the restaurant is being operated.

An alleged incident of soliciting to murder her on a contract of Rs. 3 million arranged by her husband abroad had been reported to the police a few months ago. Subsequently in connection with the incident a woman and a man were arrested on suspicion by Galle Police in June last year. In that incident the conspirators had abducted her to a lonely location, forced old cloth into her mouth and tied up her in that house.

Later they had filmed the incident to be sent to her husband living overseas.

The case regarding the incident is still pending at Galle Magistrate Court.

Habaraduwa Police have initiated investigations to arrest the assassins on instructions from Galle ASP Udaya Kumara.
