In keeping with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa direction to keep the environment clean, the Kaluvankerny beach in the Eravur Pattu Chenkalady Divisional Secretariat area was cleaned up yesterday under the sponsorship of the British Council and implemented by the International Muslim Aid and Vocational Training Authority.

Under the active citizen training programme, the beach area was cleaned, segregating plastic, organic and paper waste. In addition, the beach were cleaned off dry shrubs, discarded fishing nets and driftwood, waste and debris.

The social resource person and counsellor from the British Council Jeyaraj Priyanga headed this campaign.

This shramadana campaign will help to cultivate understanding, co-existence, reconciliation and peace among the communities too, he said. The national coordinator for International Muslim Aid said that such campaigns will be planned in the future too.
