‘SL should be vigilant in wake of US-Iran tensions’

The government should stay vigilant regarding Sri Lanka’s national security in the wake of possible international instability due to the tension between the US and Iran, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said.

Premadasa made this observation at a public rally held in Awissawella yesterday.

He stressed the importance of giving attention to a possible oil crisis that may have adverse effects on Sri Lanka’s economy. “If we could manage the same oil prices in such a situation, it would be truly beneficial. But in case we have to increase fuel prices, everyone will have to go through serious difficulties. Underprivileged persons would seriously be affected,” Premadasa said.

Premadasa also said one of the main foreign exchange earnings for the country is the remittances of Sri Lankan workers based in the Middle East and an armed conflict may be detrimental for Sri Lankan employees and the country’s economy.
