A group of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters staged a peaceful protest at the Kolonnawa junction yesterday appealing to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to grant a Presidential pardon to former Kolonnawa SLPP Organiser Duminda Silva.

The group staged the protest carrying placards requesting the President to pardon Silva under a general amnesty.

Duminda Silva received the death penalty over the murder of former Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra. Addressing a media briefing recently, SLFP Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara said while the Supreme Court decision is final, the situation at present has been compromised with regard to the controversial phone recordings of MP Ranjan Ramanayake and his influence over certain judges. Therefore, he called for an investigation into this matter to ensure there was no undue influence on the judgement of Duminda Silva’s case.
