Ten years’ RI, Rs. 10,000 fine for raping disabled woman

A man indicted for raping 39-year-old disabled woman was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years’ RI and Rs. 10,000 fine by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundhara yesterday (10).

The accused, D.G. Dilip Hemantha of Gokarella, is a father of two children.

He had raped the disabled woman when she was on her way home from a nearby boutique on July 30, 2009.He was also ordered to pay Rs. 100,000 compensation to the victim.

In default of the fine and compensation, another 6 months’ imprisonment was given.

State counsel Akila Amunugama prosecuted.
