UNP’s “good governance” exposed – SLPP Matale Organizer Dissanayake

The assault incident in which Matale Municipal Council Mayor Daljith Aluvihare (UNP) and his driver called ‘Puwa’ have been allegedly involved on Wednesday and Ranjan Ramanayake’s conversations in the phone recordings reflect the “good governance and democracy” maintained by the former UNP Government, former Minister and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Matale District Organizer Rohana Dissanayake said.

He said yesterday (9) the Matale Mayor who represents the UNP and his driver had assaulted a UNP Municipal Councillor over a matter that they could not come to an agreement. “The victim, Municipal Councillor P.S. Mogan is receiving treatment at the hospital,” Dissanayake said. “The suspects were arrested by the Police. If they could not tolerate the views of their own camp, how could they tolerate criticisms of the opposite camp?”

“The UNP Government came into power in 2015, promising good governance and democracy but they had not been able to keep the same,” Dissanayake said. “Ranjan Ramanayake had attempted to influence judiciary, Police and the CID. He had involved in many crimes in them, including contempt of Court.”

He made these observations after visiting Municipal Councillor P.S. Mogan at the Matale Hospital. He added that nearly eight complaints have been sent to the President against the Matale Mayor; some of them are assaults against the opposition party supporters. He added that those letters demanded the President to suspend the Matale Mayor’s service.
