State Minister of Investment Promotion and Government Spokesperson Keheliya Rambukwella charged that the name tag of Yahapalana, under which the former rode to power, was a farce since damning revelations from UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake audio recordings prove that there was a concentrated attempt to interfere with judicial matters.
“It was under the guise of the 19th Amendment, that the previous government came to power promising people that the judiciary, commissions and other entities would be independent, sovereign and would deal with matters justly,” he told the media at the Government Information Department yesterday.
“Those claims about independence seem to be a farce now. Swift action must be taken before more revelations erode the confidence people place.” The Minister conferred that the judiciary too will need to take notice of the grave dangers that have been posed to it, which had come to light through these audio recordings and may need to review cases.
