Govt. targets seven million tourists by 2030

The government plans to increase the annual tourist arrivals to seven million by 2030 and earn US$10 billion from the industry, Industrial Export, Investment Promotion and Civil Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has said.

“A new integrated development approach to develop the tourism, aviation and investment promotion sectors will be formulated,” Minster Ranatunga said, adding that he has ordered relevant officials of the Ministry to come up with an urgent plan to implement this programme.

“Sri Lanka Tourism, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, the Bandaranaike International Airport, SriLankan Airlines and the Board of Investment are under the purview of the Ministry and with the formulation of this integrated development approach among these institutions, considerable progress can be expected in these sectors,” the Minister said.

“Our main target is to increase foreign exchange through the development of the tourism industry and developing airline operations within and outside the country to provide maximum contribution to the growth of the economy,” he said.

“The government intends to make Sri Lanka a top-of-the-line tourist destination,” Minister Ranatunga added.
