Court seeks victims’ statements

‘War Heroes for Motherland’ media conference on December 6, 2019 :

Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage yesterday ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record statements from victims, who have been aggrieved by a media conference held on December 6, 2019.

The CID informed court that Thushara Mendis and K.A.Gamini had participated in a media conference organised by the ‘War Heroes for Motherland’ organisation on December 6, 2019.

When the matter was taken up before court, CID officials informed that the two people were identified as Thushara Mendis and K.A.Gamini.

They had earlier in remand over an abduction case. They were later released on bail.

The CID informed court that the two suspects had made several allegations regarding the investigation officials and the ongoing investigation about a youth abduction case.

The CID further stated that Attorney-at-law Ajith Prasanna had mentioned that court had issued orders under certain pressures. The CID also stated that Counsel Ajith Prasanna had exposed several details about the court proceedings and details about the abduction case.

The CID also stated that they will take necessary legal action over contempt of court through the Court of Appeal.

The CID further stated that they have commenced this investigation following a complaint lodged by Attorney-at-law Achala Seneviratne before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Attorney-at-law Achala Seneviratne pointed out that the relevant media briefing will affect witnesses and victims of the abduction case.

The CID also stated that they will record statements from Attorney-at-law Ajith Prasanna and three others who have been participated in the media briefing on December 6, 2019.

The Additional Magistrate fixed further inquiries for January 22.
