Ranjan files motion regarding leaked phone recordings

Filing a motion before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court, Counsel Asha Kahawatta appearing on behalf of United National Party Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake told court that CDs and other devices that were seized from the MP’s residence in Madiwela were released to the media.

The Counsel also pleaded to issue an order directing the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to handover those CDs and other devices before the Magistrate. Counsel Kahawatta also pointed out that her client has been aggrieved by the release of these voice recordings to the media.

Several telephone conversations between MP Ramanayake and several key officials of the Police including former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Judiciary and prominent politicians are being circulating on social media.

Police seized several CDs from the MP’s residence in Madiwela on Saturday during a search carried out by the CCD following a search warrant issued by the court.

After taken into consideration, the Magistrate issued notice on the Colombo Crimes Division to appear before the court on January 17.
