Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has won the trust of the Maha Sangha and the people of the country. Therefore, he should be appointed as the leader of the United National Party, the Maha Sangha proposed yesterday.
Ven. Muguna Watawana Siddhantha Thera, the Convener of the Bhikkhu Organization of the National Movement for a Just Society said a request in this regard has been made from the present party leadership and the seniors.
He was addressing the media at the National Movement for a Just Society head office in Rajagiriya.
The Thera said Jayasuriya is the most suitable person to be the party leader at present. Therefore, this decision should be taken with the consent of everyone with immediate effect.
Currently, the UNP party leadership is held by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
