Commission probing Easter Sunday attacks:

Ven.Akmeemana thera, MP Wijeyadasa, Azath Sally give statements

The investigation unit of the Presidential Commission investigating the Easter Sunday bomb attacks recorded statements from Ven. Akmeemana Dayarathana thera, MP Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa and former Western Province Governor Asath Salley who arrived at the commission office yesterday morning.

Since new evidence had cropped up during their statements they hoped to record a further statement from Asath Salley today (9) too, sources said.

Retired DIG Palitha Siriwardene who earlier served as Kegalle DIG had said that Asath Salley had tried to influence him when he went to arrest suspects involved in desecrating Buddha statues in Mawanella. Sources said Salley will be questioned about this matter too.

The Commission’s Investigation unit has so far recorded statements from over 300 witnesses.

However only about 50 of them had been summoned before the commission to record evidence.

The term of office of the Commission ends in March this year.

The Commission has expressed confidence that the President will extend its term of office if it could not complete its task by that date.
