Govt. does not interfere with law enforcement authorities - Rambukwella

The Government does not interfere in the work of law enforcement authorities, Investment Promotion State Minister and Government Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Speaking at a press conference at his office in Kandy, Rambukwella pointed out that it is not in the realm of public representatives to decide as to who should be arrested and how the charges should be filed against them.

He said the incumbent Government, unlike the previous Government, does not meddle with the duties of Police and the Judiciary.

“A number of voice recordings of telephone calls of MP Ranjan Ramanayake are now circulating over social media. Those show undue influences on former CID Chief Shani Abeysekara, Police and the Judiciary. Yet, we do not want to use them as a political weapon. I am the Government Spokesman not the Police Spokesman. Therefore, I cannot speak of the decisions of the Police. Deciding who would be remanded and how he would be charged is not a duty of the politicians,” State Minister Rambukwella said.
