An internationally recognised university degree will be awarded to students who pass out from the National Institute of Social Development (NISD), Women’s and Children’s Affairs and Social Security, Health and Indigenous Medicine Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has said.

According to Minister Wanniarachchi, the most important decision taken by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is to offer a degree to every Advanced Level-qualified student. “A degree is a must for the programme of developing the country,” she said, addressing the gathering after an inspection tour of NISD which is located at Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa, recently. Minister Wanniarachchi said that all students who pass out from NISD can fulfill the targets set by the President for the uplift of the country. They can actively and effectively contribute to achieving those targets. There is a huge demand for degrees similar to those offered by the NISD.

A Cabinet paper has already been forwarded to affiliate the NISD with Kelaniya University in order to offer degree programmes. The NISD is the only institution in Sri Lanka which has been working for over 68 years in the field of social development, she added.
