All state officials must implement the policies of the government, Anuradhapura Additional Government Agent Keerthi Gamage said.

He was speaking at an awareness seminar held recently at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat's auditorium.

"The citizens of this country play a major role in its progress. Therefore, we, as state officials, must implement government policies, irrespective of our political and personal differences," Gamage added.

Prof. Channa Jayasumana of the Rajarata University's Medical Faculty, in his speech, said that the policies have been prepared after thoroughly analysing the major issues that the citizens of this country are faced with; namely weak national security, Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu), drug-peddling, deterioration of cultural identities, and the inefficiency of state services.

He added that the policies will also give priority to socio-cultural, religious, and economical issues in the country.

"An issue that could easily be addressed by a Grama Niladhari should not reach the District Secretary or the Government Agent. Such lapses in state services would only symbolise inefficiency and lethargy on the part of the government," Prof. Jayasumana said, adding that state officials are there to help people, not boss them around.
