Bus driver fined Rs. 35,000

Galle Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana imposed a fine of Rs. 35,000 on a private bus driver when he pleaded guilty for the charge of reckless driving. The magistrate further suspended his driving license for one year.

The accused is a bus driver on the Galle – Kumarakanda bus route via Baddegama named Munasinghe Chinthaka Udaya Kumara Mendis.

The Galle Police yesterday produced two bus drivers before the magistrate from remand prison with the charges of reckless driving and quarrelling on the expressway after committing a road accident. Both of them had been arrested by the officials of Galle Police Traffic Branch when they were in conflict on the expressway following the incident and subsequently remanded on production before courts.

Later they were prosecuted under section 272 of Penal Code on charges of reckless driving, putting others’ lives in danger and causing damage to property.

However as the other driver denied the charges against him the magistrate ordered the police to proceed with legal action against him. SI Jagath with PS Udayanga of Galle Police Traffic Branch prosecuted on instructions from its OIC IP Sujeewa Kumara.
