Health Minister visits Karapitiya maternity hospital construction site

To be vested with public before February:

Women and Child Affairs, Social Security, Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Plantations and Export Agriculture Minister and Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana visited the maternity hospital construction site in Karapitiya recently, the Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, during the inspection tour, Minister Wanniarachchi had instructed the contractors who handle construction work of the hospital to complete it before the end of February this year and hand it over to the Health Ministry.

The new Karapitiya maternity hospital with six floors, is being constructed in a state-owned land using a grant provided by the Helmut Kohl Foundation. The project commenced in 2005 at a cost of Euro 5,000 million. After completion, this will be the first maternity hospital in the Southern Province. The hospital will consist of 600 beds, six operation theaters (surgeries), neonatal and ICU facilities and many other modern facilities and technologies.
