‘Call to establish Presidential Commission to probe Ranjan’s audio tapes’

Development Banking and Loan Schemes State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said yesterday that a Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) should be established to probe into the recordings of then state Minister Ranjan Ramanayake’s conversation with top Police officers, politicians and judges.

He was addressing a media briefing held at Temple Trees. He further said analyzing the contents of the recordings, it is clear that Ranjan Ramanayake has acted as a private emissary of the Yahapalana regime in persecuting its political opponents.

It is also clear that they have political revenged all the people who had been challenged to them all the way up to life impressments and death sentences. Several sections of the law enforcement authorities were also engaged in these revengeful activities. It has been clear from the beginning that former CID Director SSP Shani Abeysekara has acted partially and the government must inquire into the recordings of all the conversations between Ranjan Ramanayake and all the other persons involved in this drama.

He further said that real image of former Minister Patali Champika and Ajith P. Perera who spoke about the independence of the Judiciary always have shown to the public though the comments they have made in these recordings. Therefore, it is urgent need to commence an investigation in this regard to reveal the truth to the public,” he added.

MP Sisira Jayakody said during the last four and a half years, the institutions dealing with the law and order and the judiciary have been misused into a great extent.
