British couple attack woman SI

A woman Sub Inspector has been reportedly assaulted by a British couple as the former together with some other police officers tried to arrest them for over staying visa on Monday, Galle Deputy Inspector General’s office said.

A group of police officers including the woman SI had gone to arrest the couple on information that the couple was over staying visa at a house in Happavana in Habaraduwa. The British couple had resisted the police and attacked the woman SI. The police officers, however, had arrested the couple.

Twenty foreigners over staying visa have been arrested over the last weekend. Fifteen have been detected from Galle and 15 from Hambantota.

The suspects were to be produced before the Galle and Hambantota Magistrates’ courts. Majority among the arrested are Chinese and Indians, DIG office said.
