Most bizarre beauty fad of 2019!

Dubbed ‘devil lips’ or ‘octopus lips’, the trend is thought to have originated in Russia.

Known as ‘devil lips’, this bizarre cosmetic trend sees women use lip fillers or make-up to create devil-inspired wavy pouts - and it has been receiving extreme reactions online.

Critics of the fad call it unnatural and dangerous, as the semi-permanent procedure is believed to involve injecting filler into the outer lip to create an unusual wave. The new trend is thought to have been started by a Russian plastic surgeon named Emelian Braude and now, it’s sweeping across social media.

Why is it being labelled as dangerous?

If done by a professional, and if injected inappropriately, these fillers could end up in blood vessels, causing blockages and leading to necrosis (death) of the tissue. There is also the risk of ending up with distorted lips. And while beauty fans are divided over sporting the wavy pout, some are taken in by its popularity on social media. For those who want to play it safe, there is always image altering sites that can create the same effect without you having to take a risk simply to sport the devil aka octopus lips.

Celeb pouts that went viral
