Passara–Madolsima bus accident: Death toll increases - UPDATE

UPDATE

The death toll from the Passara–Madolsima bus accident was raised to 12.

Earlier it was reported that, Eight people died and over 40 others were injured when an SLTB bus veered off the road and plunged down a precipice at the Sixth Milepost on the Passara–Madolsima Road at around 5.20 p.m. yesterday.

Over 70 passengers were travelling in the bus when the accident occurred. The injured have been warded at the Badulla and Passara hospitals.

Police added that a number of children were also among the victims.

Police added that a number of children were also among the victims.

School children returning from evening classes, government and private sector employees were among the injured. The driver and the conductor of the bus who were said to be in a critical condition have also been admitted to the Badulla General Hospital.

Uva Governor Raja Collure also visited the Badulla General Hospital on receiving information of the accident. Madulsima Police are conducting investigations under the supervision of Uva Province DIG K.V.D.A.J.Karavita.
