Alleged telephone conversation between Ranjan and top CID official

Colombo South Crime Division receives audio recordings

The Colombo South Crime Division has received audio recordings of an alleged telephone conversation between former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and a top CID official during the previous Yahapalana regime where former State Minister Ramanayake has allegedly urged the CID official to take MP Namal Rajapaksa and present Roads and Highways, Ports and Shipping Minister Johnston Fernando into the custody.

A high ranking Police Officer said that former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake has recorded the telephone conversation with politicians and top ranking officials during the former regime and kept them with his personal files. The conversation where he allegedly urges the CID official to arrest Minister Johnston Fernando and MP Namal Rajapaksa was also included in these files. In addition to these video conversations, he has also recorded conversations with those in Parliament and outside.

He had also secretly videoed the several conversations he had with several powerful figures.

Moreover, three files based on the investigation handled by the CID on three special cases were allegedly found in the possession of former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake. It is questionable as to how he received this information and a separate investigation should be conducted in this regard.
