Sixteen Galkatas recovered in Army-STF operation

Sixteen locally manufactured rifles (Galkatas) were recovered in a joint combined Army-STF operation from four locations in Pokarappu, Kevil in the Chundikulam reserve in Palai.

These rifles had been recovered by a team of STF personnel and the Army on Sunday based on intelligence information provided by the military.

It is believed that the rifles had been used for hunting purposes.

However, no suspects have been arrested so far and it is not known to whom these rifles belong to. It is suspected that these rifles may have been abandoned by those who may have used them for hunting for fear of being found with such weapons in their possession by the Security Forces and Police. Palai Police is investigating.
