Long-distance bus commuters’ issues to be solved soon: Amaraweera

The Passenger Transport Management Ministry has decided to provide immediate solutions to the issues faced by long-distance bus commuters, Passenger Transport Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

“Almost all long-distance buses stop at restaurants, and the prices of the food served at these restaurants are higher than the market price. Commuters have filed several complaints in this connection,” Amaraweera said.

He added that the Consumer Affairs Authority has the power to take the necessary measures to address this issue.

The National Transport Commission has also decided to establish food outlets for such commuters under the supervision of the Consumer Affairs Authority, the minister said.

Highlighting that certain hoteliers were tipping bus drivers and conductors for choosing their restaurants, Minister Amaraweera said that Cabinet would be informed about the matter to take stern legal action against them.
