National Transport Medical Institute to set up three sub-offices

The National Transport Medical Institute has decided to decentralise the process of issuing medical certificates by setting up three regional sub-offices in the country.

This follows instructions given by Passenger Transport Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to its management to find an alternative programme to prevent overcrowding at the institute head office to obtain medical certificates, a media statement by the Passenger Transport Management, Power and Energy Ministry said. The statement said that the regional sub-offices would be set up in Avissawella, Dambulla and Negombo.

The Avissawella sub-office would serve applicants from areas such as Ratnapura, Bandarawela and Nuwara Eliya, while the Dambulla sub-office would serve applicants from the Northern and Eastern Provinces as well as the North Central Province. The Negombo sub-office would serve applicants from Wayamba, Gampaha and nearly areas.

The Minister who had directed officials to expedite the setting up of the sub-offices had instructed them to establish a fully-equipped office for issuing driving licences in Anuradhapura shortly to help applicants from the Northern and Eastern regions to save time and money in having to travel to Colombo to obtain the licences.
