Creative Software celebrates two decades in Sri Lanka

A leader and pioneer in the Sri Lankan software industry, Creative Software, marked two decades of operations this November. The milestone was celebrated in grand scale at a gala dinner at the Shangri-La ballroom on November 30.

Amongst the distinguished guests were the Norwegian Ambassador, Trine Jøranli Eskedal as the guest of honour and the leading Swedish tech entrepreneur, Bengt Nilsson as the Chief Guest.

Employees with their families, academic staff from universities, officers from diplomatic missions and government institutions as well as clients, enjoyed a night of togetherness celebrating “Two Decades of Creative”.

Welcoming the gathering, director of Creative Software, Sushena Ranatunga said, “As we celebrate two decades of excellence, it is worthwhile to remember the significant milestones throughout the journey and our contribution to the transition of Sri Lanka from a fresh entrant to the software industry to a preferred outsourcing destination for Scandinavian countries. Creative Software was also the first in Sri Lanka to work with leading global companies such as Boeing and Microsoft and on a local level we have always been encouraging and supporting local entrepreneurs and initiating a multitude of programmes with universities to develop the next generation. Now our journey continues with an even stronger focus on product innovation and state-of-the art R&D initiatives.”

The Norwegian ambassador, Trine Jøranli Eskedal spoke about the strong link between Sri Lanka and Scandinavia, particularly in Information Technology, and how this link has benefitted both Scandinavia and Sri Lanka.

The Chief guest Bengt Nilsson was one of the first to choose Sri Lanka as an outsourcing destination when he, as the CEO of IFS, decided to set-up a software development centre in Sri Lanka. Today he heads another successful Scandinavian software firm, partnering with Creative Software to do Research and Development in Sri Lanka. He said “When I first arrived in Sri Lanka, it was clear that the country - with its aptly trained professionals - had great potential and could become a preferred destination for software outsourcing. Today that potential has been realised. It brings me great pleasure to wish Creative Software a happy anniversary as it continues on its journey as one of Sri Lankas leading Software Companies.”

Inaugurated in 1999, today Creative Software and associated companies employ almost 700 people. By attracting software professionals and graduates looking for challenging work and international exposure in an informal, fun and creative work environment, the company has assembled the top Sri Lankan software talent and become a leader in the local industry.
