BIA porter arrested for smuggling gold biscuits

A porter at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was arrested by the Customs for attempting to smuggle out 6.5kgs of gold biscuits worth Rs.58 million yesterday morning.

The suspect had concealed 65 gold biscuits on his person. The suspect was arrested at the arrival terminal by a team of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at the BIA, Additional Customs Director General and Media Spokesman Sunil Jayaratne said.

The suspect is 41 years old and is a resident of Kurunegala. Intelligence information on the suspect was received by the Narcotics Control Unit beforehand. Further investigations are continuing.
