Vietnamese Buddhist clergy delegation visits SL

A delegation of Vietnamese Buddhist monks and nuns headed by Ven. Thich Phuoc Ngoc Thera, visited several religious sites in Sri Lanka, last month. Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Kandy were among the cities they visited. The delegation also called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, and several other politicians.

Furthermore, Ven. Ngoc Thera also launched a scholarship programme for novice monks at a recent ceremony held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. Novice monks who obtain the highest scores at their final examinations would also be given an opportunity to study abroad.

The Maha Sangha also gave the bhikku the name ‘Ven. Bante Dhammananda Thera at the aforementioned event. At present, Ven. Ngoc Thera is engaged in Buddhist activities in the United States.
