‘Previous regime carpeted private roads’

The previous regime had carpeted private roads misusing people's tax, Economic and Policy Development State Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said.

He was participating in a `Sapiri Gamak' programme held to educate politicians and officials recently.“They carpeted private roads. The government now implements development projects after those projects were approved by relevant village development committees, the State Minister said.

The `Sapiri Gamak' will iron out gaps between villages and towns when carrying out development projects in them. The Government offers two million rupees for each Grama Niladhari division in the first quarter of this year for development,” he said.

The State Minister instructed the participants not to select development projects that have legal issues.

“The Government will offer two million rupees for each every four month of the year,” the State Minister said.
