Two paddy varieties introduced

The Batalagoda Paddy Research Station has introduced two varieties of paddy and named them BG 252 and BG 374, research officials said.

BG 252 is a high quality red samba variety that grows in wet, dry and torrid zones. Over 100 bushels could be obtained from a hectare in two and half months. It has high resistance to insects and diseases.

BG 374 is a white Nadu grown in all regions. Over 120 bushels could be yielded from a hectare in three and half months. The grain of paddy is small. It resists pests and insects, the researchers said.

The two paddy varieties have a high demand now.
