Free nursing assistant training course commences in Ampara

The Florence Nightingale Nursing Assistant Training Course commenced at the Vipulanada Rehabilitation Organization (ADVRO) Elders’ Home in Kurukkalmadam on the Batticaloa-Kalmunai highway yesterday.

This seven-month free training course inauguration ceremony was presided over by Vipulanada Rehabilitation Organization (ADVRO) Elders’ Home President S.Chandralingam. The course has been facilitated by Dr. Thiagaraja Periyasamy, a General Physician of the UK.

Dr. Thiagaraja said the Florence Nightingale hailed from a very rich family in Italy and came to the UK and devoted her life and resources in looking after the injured during World War-1.

“Florence treated the injured with love and care and we also should serve people without any racial or religious bias,” he said.

Eastern University Senior Lecturer Dr. K.Arulanandam said that nursing is a very marketable product in Sri Lanka as well as abroad. Students following this course will gain qualities of leadership, and acquire communication skills.

Retired matron Vani Chandrasegaram will be in charge of the course.

The Tertiary Vocational Education Council (TVEC) will award the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level-3 certificate to those trainees who will successfully complete the course.

Vocational Training Center Director T.Mayuran, Health Care Assistant Tamilvani Chandrasegaran, ADVRO Secretary K.Varatharajan, Coordinating Secretary K.Karunagaran, Treasurer K.Selvanayagam, and Committee Members Kalinga Karunagaran and S.Loganathan were present.
