Home gardens to be revived

The Environment, Wildlife, Land and Land Development Ministry has made arrangements to re-start the two million home gardens project countrywide, Minister S.M. Chandrasena said.

The programme has been renewed as per the directions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

“These home gardens will be re-started to provide vegetables and fruits needed for local consumption. The Ministry will provide the necessary fertilizer, seeds, plants and technical guidance to the home gardener. The seeds and plants will be provided by the Mahaweli Authority, Wildlife Conservation Department and the Coconut Development Board,” the Minister said.

In addition, some 30,000 village tanks which are now abandoned would be restored for the use of farmers countrywide to promote food production, he said, at a meeting of farmers and officials of the Agrarian Services Department in the Kurunegala district yesterday.
