Following a death a prisoner at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, 12 prisoners climbed the roof of the Batticaloa Prison yesterday in protest, saying they will not come down until an inquiry is held.

The deceased prisoner was admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital after complaining of fever. The protesting prisoners are demanding that the judicial officer should visit the prison to look into the matter.

More security has been posted at the prison due to the tense situation prevailing there. The protesting prisoners are threatening to commit suicide if the judicial officer does not visit the prison.
