PCoI into Easter attacks to resume on Jan. 17

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks on April 21, 2019, will commence recording evidence from January 17.

The Commission sources said that the Commission has already recorded statements from over 300 people. The first interim report of the investigation was handed over to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on December 19.

Colombo Archbishop Malcolm, Cardinal Ranjith, Professor Rohan Gunarathne and two DIG officers were among those who gave statements to the Commission.

The five-member Commission is chaired by Court of Appeal Judge Janak de Silva. Other members are Court of Appeal Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, retired Court of Appeal Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa, retired HC Judge Bandula Kumara Atapattu and former Justice Ministry Secretary W.M.M. Adhikari. The Commission started its proceedings on October 31.
