Leopard haunts Buttala- Kataragama road

Residents of Buttala, Kataragama said a leopard is roaming in the area and chasing after motorcyclists.

It reportedly had attacked four motorcyclists on three days. Buttala police said that the area comes under the Yala No. 3 Zone and that many people travel on the road daily.

About six months ago, a leopard had attacked several motorcyclists. Eventually, it was caught by the wildlife officials. Southern Region Assistant Wildlife Director Prasannna Wimaladasa said fish sellers travelling on the road throw their remaining fish to the forest reserve and leopards feed on them.

He said the public must not attempt to feed wild animals and take their pictures along the road.
